Pig Bimpin’ is a blog based upon the personal reflections and observations of me, Karan Singh.
I’m no journalist nor am I a writer. I figured after reading copious numbers design blogs and realising the majority were devoid of substance, especially in interviewing people I really admired, I should do something about it. I’m partially spurred on by my interests in writing though I’m actually a full time illustrator.
You can see my work at Wake Up Mr. Singh.
Pig Bimpin’ serves as a resource for the curious and intrigued about the often unspoken facets of the design industry. Whist the focus is honed on those exceeding in their creative field of choice, my primary interest lies in researching the every day designer. I’m of the firm belief that whilst not all designers and their works are famous and sought after, they still play a significant role in providing a stable and ready community in which creativity is appreciated and thus allows for evolution and progress.
My critical focus is on the interviewing of creatives irrespective of their discipline, regardless of their age, role or achievements. Rather, it intends to celebrate the diversity of characters of which the creative industry is comprised, i.e. people simply who do what they love and love what they do.
The name, “Pig Bimpin”, is a play on the title of a famous track by American hip hop artist Jay-Z, ‘Big Pimpin’, a slang used in describing those who exude success, fame and fortune. “Pig Bimpin’”, flips the script on this name, a direct allusion to the often less the glamourous fruits of creative labour.
The typeface gracing the logo that you see at the top of the screen is called ‘Motor’ was kindly donated by talented Melbourne based designer Simon Bent. There’s also a neat little article which has been written about it on this site which you can read here. The typefaces used for the interviews were designed by Karan Singh (that’s me).
